ART ALLEY

The Art of Silver Metal Clay

In this afternoon workshop we will make a small piece of jewelry, a pendant, using embossing texture and clay forming techniques.  We will fire the piece with a torch and it will be ready to take home after class. We will learn all the techniques necessary to complete a beginner project  and use some of the many materials that are available in the precious metal clay field. Tools and silver clay provided.

Explore the many aspects of SILVER METAL CLAY (Art Clay Fine Silver .999) in this PENDANT design class. For beginners and experienced Metal Clay enthusiasts who wish to further their knowledge and skill. Use molds, stamps, textures, extrusion methods, glass inclusions and freehand techniques to create a fabulous Fine Silver pendant about the size of a quarter.  You will sculpt, dry, sand, TORCH FIRE, polish and wear your pendant home.

What is Silver Metal Clay?

Composed of Fine Silver powder 99.9% and combined with non-toxic binders and water. In the raw the metal looks like a lump of clay and can be rolled, coiled, sculpted, stamped, sanded, filed, engraved, drilled, and pre-polished, all prior to firing. When fired with a torch or in a kiln the binder burns away and sinters into solid metal.Metal Clay actually comes in a variety of metals, gold, fine silver, sterling, brass, copper etc.
