Pottery Classes
These classes offer an introduction to the pottery studio: equipment, tools, procedures, clay properties, forming skills and techniques for the beginner. It also offers instruction and continued practice for the returning student. You can take this class multiple sessions, building your knowledge and skills each week. We will choose one hand built form, projects vary: whistle, mug, 3 legged bowl, or lidded box, the 1st class. At the 2nd meeting we will begin the potters wheel. A short cylinder is the first form (cat dish). In the 3rd class we will trim and decorate using the Japanese scraffito technique. In classes 4-7, more throwing and trimming. If you find the wheel isn’t your preference, you can return to hand building. Surface treatment with glazes is taught during the session and at the final class. Art Alley Studio will fire your work in an oxidation kiln to 2232F (^6).
Please read the student guidelines before attending the first class.
